Table Lighter Tamo

Tamo, sometimes called Japanese ash burl, is one of the rarest and most sought-after figured woods used in fine woodworking. Its dramatic, rippled figure only becomes available once the tree has died naturally, since the burl cannot be harvested any other way, which means availability is limited by nature rather than by us. Every Tamo piece is genuinely one-of-a-kind.

The flame

Inside sits a Vector KGM triple-flame torch insert, a butane burner that fires three angled jets into a single concentrated cone. It lights broad and even across the foot of a cigar, so a ring gauge toasts uniformly rather than scorching at one edge, and the jet flame holds steady outdoors where a soft flame would not. A hinged cap lifts to fire the burner, the flame height is set with a rotary adjuster, and the tank refills from the base with premium refined butane.

For all the rarity of the material, it is built to be used. The body stays put on the table while you turn a cigar above the flame, and the jet burns clean and wind-resistant, with no fuel taste carried into the first third, which is where a good cigar shows its construction.

Care

Wipe the wood with a soft, dry cloth; Tamo settles gently in tone with age, which is part of its character. Bleed the tank and refill with premium butane only, and allow the insert a moment to reach temperature after filling before lighting.
