Tamo, sometimes called Japanese ash burl, is one of the rarest figured woods used in fine woodworking. Its dramatic, rippled grain only becomes available once the tree has died naturally, which is part of what makes each Tamo humidor genuinely one-of-a-kind. It forms the insert designed to pair with the Litolite Lacquered Bar Cabinet, though it stands beautifully on its own too.
A figure that cannot be repeated
Burl cannot be cultivated or cut to order. It is the tree's response to stress, and every panel is selected from material we have already sourced and set aside. What that means for you is straightforward: the figure on this humidor exists once, and no second Tamo piece will repeat it.
The system inside
Humidification runs on Boveda packs, which work in both directions. Moisture is released when the interior dries and reabsorbed when it climbs, so the level stays flat instead of swinging. There is no distilled water and no sponge: the packs are replaced when they begin to stiffen, typically every two to four months. An automatic ventilation system keeps that humidity even across the whole interior, and internal LED lighting brings out the rippled figure of the burl every time the door opens.
Capacity and care
The 150+ capacity is measured on a standard Robusto and shifts with ring gauge. The drawer fronts are cut from solid oak, not veneered, so they stay flat despite humid air on one face and dry room air on the other. Keep the humidor below roughly 21 °C, out of direct sun and away from radiators. Above about 24 °C tobacco beetle eggs can hatch inside a cigar. The wood needs only an occasional dry cloth, with no polish and no solvents.
