How to Create a Luxury Cigar Setting at Home: Humidor, Lighter and Ashtray

A good cigar setting is not three objects placed on a table. It is one small scene: a humidor, a lighter and an ashtray that share a material, a colour or a mood, so the corner looks finished before anyone lights up. This guide shows how to choose the three pieces together, how to place them, and gives five complete combinations with prices, from a 510 euro starter pair to the full La Casona set. Everything is handmade in our atelier in Italy.

What makes a setting work

Three things decide whether the pieces look like a set or like a coincidence.

  • One shared element. The same stone, the same wood, or at least the same tone. Even one repeated material is enough to tie the table together.
  • Different shapes. The humidor is long and low, the lighter stands upright, the ashtray lies flat. The variety in height is what makes a group of three look composed.
  • Weight that stays put. A marble lighter weighs 2.5 kg and a marble ashtray 2.5 to 5 kg, so nothing slides when you reach for it or put a cigar down.

Start with the humidor

The humidor is the largest piece and the one that costs the most, so choose it first and let it set the tone. Our luxury humidors come in marble and in rare wood, and both use a Boveda system, so there is no water to fill. If you are still deciding between the two materials, read marble versus wood humidors.

  • Desk size: the Diamond Small holds around 80 Toro cigars and comes in White Ebony, Bocote, Tamo and Nero Marquina marble, from 2,990 euro.
  • Larger collection: the Diamond Large holds around 120 Toro cigars, from 3,450 euro. For help sizing, see how many cigars a humidor holds.
  • Compact marble: The Stealth is a black Nero Marquina marble humidor, 50 x 36 x 15 cm, 3,490 euro.

Match the lighter and the ashtray

Once the humidor is chosen, there are three simple ways to add the other two pieces.

  1. Same stone. The safest and the most elegant. Nero Marquina and Calacatta are available as both a table lighter and a marble ashtray, and Grigio Orobico as a lighter and a large ashtray.
  2. Same family. Keep to light tones or to dark tones. A White Ebony humidor with a white Calacatta lighter and ashtray, for example, reads as one pale palette.
  3. Deliberate contrast. A warm wood humidor with a white stone ashtray, or a black marble humidor with a pale wood lighter. Contrast works when you repeat it: use the same contrast on both small pieces.

Sizes are easy to combine. Every lighter measures 12 x 12 x 6 cm. The small ashtray is 16 cm and the large one 20 cm, so the pair fits beside any of our humidors without crowding. Choose the large ashtray if you often smoke with a guest or prefer a bigger rest for the cigar. Our guides to the table lighter and the marble ashtray go through every stone and price.

Prices in euro. Every piece is handmade in Italy and delivery time is shown on each product page.

The starter pair is the way to begin if the humidor is a later purchase: a lighter and an ashtray already look right together, and the humidor can join them in the same stone or wood when you are ready.

The statement set: La Casona

When you want the whole scene decided for you, the La Casona set brings humidor, table lighter and ashtray together in one design: a White Ebony humidor with a Calacatta Oro marble lid, and a matching lighter and ashtray in Calacatta Oro, all carved and painted by hand with the same Cuban street scene. The humidor measures 50 x 28 x 14 cm. To see how the relief is made, read about our hand-painted marble accessories.

Where to place it

  • Within arm's reach of the seat. Lighter and ashtray on the side you use most, the humidor a little further back. You should be able to light and rest the cigar without leaning.
  • On a level, stable surface. A desk, a lounge table, a console or a bar cabinet. The weight of the marble pieces is an advantage here, so keep them away from the edge all the same.
  • Away from direct sun and heat. Do not put the humidor above a radiator, next to a stove or in a window that gets full sun. Stable temperature helps the cigars and the wood.
  • Room for the glass. A cigar is rarely enjoyed alone. Leave space for a drink; our pairing guide suggests what to pour.

For a larger space, such as a dedicated lounge, read how to plan a walk-in humidor room, or see what else a collector may want in our cigar accessories guide.

Caring for the three pieces

  • Marble lighter and ashtray: a soft, barely damp cloth. Avoid acidic and limescale cleaners, which etch polished stone.
  • Wood: a soft, dry cloth, with no solvents and no polish.
  • Humidor: follow the Boveda instructions; there is no water to manage. Our guide explains how to season a humidor.

Frequently asked questions

How do I match a humidor, a lighter and an ashtray?
Share one element: the same stone, the same wood or the same tone. Nero Marquina and Calacatta, for example, are available as both a lighter and an ashtray.

Do they have to be the same material?
No. A warm wood humidor with white marble accessories works well, as long as the two small pieces repeat the same contrast.

What is the smallest luxury cigar setting?
A table lighter and an ashtray, for example Rovere and Carrara, 510 euro together. A humidor can be added later in the same stone or wood.

How much does a complete setting cost?
From about 3,670 euro with a Diamond Small humidor, a lighter and an ashtray, up to 5,780 euro for the La Casona set.

How big are the pieces?
Every lighter is 12 x 12 x 6 cm. The ashtrays are 16 cm (small) and 20 cm (large). The Diamond Small holds around 80 Toro cigars and the Diamond Large around 120.

Where should I put the humidor?
On a level surface, away from direct sun and heat sources such as radiators.

Can the set be personalised?
Yes, with a design or logo painted by hand. Contact us early so we can confirm the timing.
